It’s going to what?

March 31, 2023

The weather guessers here on the east coast of Iowa have been working overtime in their windowless rooms. They are now forecasting severe storms, hail, tornados, and high winds, but no flooding later today starting around noon. They also say that storm will travel at 50 mph and last until 8 pm. A high of 70 will be nice even with the storms so I’ll probably be outside watching whatever hits us later.

The icing on the cake is that for tomorrow morning these same people are saying we will wake up to snow on the ground and cooler temperatures for a while. Some are probably saying this is proof of global climate change, but all I think it proves is that God has a sense of humor.

Either that, or the solar energy fields are beaming heat into the atmosphere and the wind farms are blowing it back in our faces. At any rate, time to get some groceries and make sure I still have some candles in case we lose power. Going to be an interesting day no matter what happens. Enjoy our Friday.

Hoping for a happy ending

March 30, 2023

My recent disagreement with an out of state company has led me to believe the rumors that I have a bad temper may be true. I’ve been working on the issue for 30+ years and thought I had it corralled. The time before this latest event that I got mad, Jesus dropped the charges, the Devil still has a restraining order against me, and a little jail time was involved.

Yet certain people know just which buttons to push to bring the past to the present. It got so bad I threatened to drive to Utah just to punch someone in the face. But before resorting to that I thought to try a different company and see if I have better results. I’ll know tomorrow if a cruise west is in the works. But, if things go as planned the out of state company will be out of mind and a new, in state company, will replace it.

At the moment, I’m calm and the anger has been put back in a little box at the back of my mind. I actually like being calm and that’s why I took up photography as a hobby. It calms me down and puts a smile on my face. Enjoy our Thursday.

Just about done

March 29, 2023

Yesterday I was busier than a cat covering crap on a cement floor and after a ten-hour day, had nothing to show for it. Today is going to be different. With all the running done the car will need gas at some point today. And then there is the weather. It’s forecast that the high Friday will be around 70 degrees. Nothing wrong with that right? Well… Saturday and Sunday the temperatures are supposed to drop, again.

As for this coming Friday, we have granddaddy of all Forecasts. Late in the day the weather guessers in the media are saying severe thunderstorms, high winds, and possible tornadoes. Of course, that will change as the day gets closer. The weather guessers are already saying it depends on if the storm changes track different than predicted. I still say these people need windows in their office so they could see the weather.

It won’t be long, and March will be in the rearview mirror while April will fill the windshield. Seems like time slipped a gear and is speeding up again. No complaints here as I’m still breathing to enjoy the days, even at the accelerated rate. Enjoy our Wednesday.

Crazy times

March 28, 2023

You’ve probably heard that a woman shot up a school. She was also shot and killed by police which ended the tragedy. But then it got crazy as the media stated that she was a transexual who used the pronouns he/him yet still called her a woman. That confused this oldfart who grew up during a time when there only two sexes and nobody cared what your pronouns were.

Shortly after the shooting some politicians were calling for an assault weapons ban to stop the violence. And again, I was confused as I grew up in a time when guns were not the enemy and violent crime was a lot lower. Every time the words ‘gun control’ come out of a politicians mouth I have to figure they’re planning something that would cause us to lock and load.

On the bright side, if this war on guns goes as well as the war on drugs, we have no worries. Instead of spending all the time and money to destroy the 2nd Amendment they should start fixing all the problems they caused. It’s infuriating, but sad, to watch Biden try to get through a simple news conference. We might even add amusing to that list for at times we can’t help but laugh. Enjoy our Tuesday.

It’s over

March 27, 2023

Saturday was a strange day that started with snow and ended with a lot of it melted away. The official total from the weather service said we got a little over eight and a half inches of white fluffy love from above when all was said and done. It was almost like living in a 1950s movie as most objects looked either black or white. I thought of “It’s A Wonderful Life”.

While getting a few pictures the camera, and myself, ended up being covered in the heavy snow yet I was like a kid in a candy store, amazed at all there was to see. There were snowflakes coming down as big as quarters and the silence was overwhelming. Traffic was almost non-existent, and we didn’t even hear a snowplow until later.

By the time sunset started the snow was melted off the hard surfaces and a lot of the snow on lawns was drastically reduced. At least I didn’t have to shovel the heavy wet snow as I watched it turn to slush. Oh yeah, I also found out that a package of 50 donut holes lasts 2 days when I’m left unsupervised. Enjoy our Monday.

Sunday snicker

March 26, 2023

A church is making their own translation of the Bible for children. One of the priests says to the leader of the project:

Sir, we only have one sentence left.

What is it?

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned.

That’s not to difficult. Do it and call for printing.

When the Bible is made public it makes the news and people are disgusted

What’s happened? asked the project leader

Well it was that one line sir: “Forgive me Father for I have sinned”.

Well, how did it turn out?

“Sorry daddy, I’ve been naughty”

A present

March 25, 2023

Early this morning God sent us a present. Yesterday the high was in the 50s, today the high is forecast to be around mid 40s, and in the wee hours of the morning it started to snow! It’s still snowing. When I was at the store yesterday I told the chip guy that it was supposed to snow, and he checked his smart phone to check. His phone app said we’d get up to an inch.

At that time the TV weather guesser said 1 to 3 inches of white fluffy love above. This morning they updated that to 4 to 6 inches. I’m late posting this as I forgot until I went out to feed and water the feral cats and stepped into snow over the tops of my flipflops. Didn’t take me long to realize we had gotten more snow than forecasted already and it could last until noon.

Anyway, when outside I just had to marvel at the magic of the snow covering everything. There were some bare spots in the alley, but most surfaces were covered in white. And yes, the air felt fresher too. I stood out there so long I had to change my socks as I didn’t my feet to turn into popsicles. Times like this one has to look at a calendar to make sure it isn’t April Fool’s Day.

Since I have nowhere to go this morning, I’ll let the warm up take care of snow and as soon as the sun comes up I’ll be back out getting some pictures. Enjoy our Saturday.

Lately…

March 24, 2023

Spring is in the air and the flowers are starting to color our yards with all the shades of the rainbow. While outside, enjoying the beauty that is nature, I got to thinking that people have gone nuts. General Motors announced that 2024 will be the last year for the 6th generation Camaro, but it may return at a later date. Figures, instead of addressing issues owners have, the company cites lagging sales as the reason.

Also, we don’t know what’s going on but has anyone else noticed there seems to be more vehicle wrecks lately? It seems obvious to us that too many people are getting distracted and forgot that while behind the wheel ones job is to get from point A to point B safely. While traveling we’ve seen people playing with their phones, eating, putting on makeup, shaving, and even reading a newspaper! Lord love a duck!

Another thing we’ve seen on the road is people brake checking big rigs. Not sure it that is a symptom of road rage or if people actually feel that entitled. We do live in a society that loves instant gratification. Besides the fast food industry we have drive through banking, tax preparers, and even chapels. It’s not getting any better either. People just don’t think anymore. I’ll end this here so I don’t go off the deep end. Enjoy our Friday.

Local news

March 23, 2023

We finally found a couple of bits of news concerning Phil Yerington. Phil died Monday, at age 70 of what are believed to be natural causes. We’ll try to add a few links for those who want the information. The first link is a sort of biography of Phil, so click https://qctimes.com/news/local/phil-yerrington-remembered-for-strong-at-times-brash-leadership/article_5dd768d3-4ec3-5143-86ec-4c47ee908d0b.html.

The computer is doing strange things and I’m not how this post will show up. Worst case, you may have to copy and post the website information. Sorry for the mixup and will check on how to fix it in the future. Enjoy our Thursday.

New what?

March 22, 2023

If you’re into cars, you’ve probably heard about the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170. We know that’s a mouthful, yet it’s also supposed to be the last of the V-8 powered muscle cars from Dodge. This car puts out over 1,000 horsepower, and can run the quarter mile in 8 seconds, at a speed of over 150 mph from the factory.

A rumor going around says the NHRA banned the car as the rules say any car doing an 8 second quarter must have a roll cage and parachute. We think Dodge made their point anyway. 3,300 of these will be built with 300 going to Canada and the remainder staying right here in the U.S. of A.

Sticker price is a little less then $100,000 before taxes and other miscellaneous fees. Did we mention the car is street legal? At least that’s one of the rumors we’ve heard. We would guess Dodge could sell twice the number of cars they’re building. These cars have been to the dragstrip and the numbers back up the claims. Enjoy our Wednesday.
