Here we go again…

We find politicians amusing in so many ways. At the
upper level they all proclaim to know how the average
person feels and what we need. On a local level, at
least here in Iowa, it’s all about the threat to fire
members of the police and fire departments in an
effort to trim the budget.

Like the picture above proves, nothing they are saying
is new. When we first heard ethanol was the new
renewable fuel we laughed so hard our eyes leaked.

Now it looks like city leaders are going to have add a
utility fee to all the others in order to make ends
meet. OR lay off public safety employees.

The claim is the fee will only be 3% of our gas bill
and 3% of our electric bill. Evidently some of the new
members of the council forgot why they got in. They
got elected because our city government liked to raise
taxes and fees. Like two concurrent years of hikes to
our garbage and recycle fees and the yearly bump in
our property tax assessment.

To be fair not all are jumping on the bandwagon. The
4th ward Alderman has said it isn’t needed while some
members of council who are usually very vocal on such
issues remain mute.

We agree with Alderman Ambrose, now is not a good time
to raise the taxes. And yes, we know state law says the
fee could be high as 5%. Who knows how this will turn
out, but it will be interesting to watch it unfold.

Enjoy your weekend as we know we will.
Comments are always welcome.
