Unplugged

Yesterday the wife and I decided to leave the
information highway and get on a real one. We
cruised north with the rising sun and ended up at
the home of the Fenelon Place Elevator. Also called
the 4th Street Elevator.

This video is from Allen Huffman and will give you
an idea of what the experience is like.

As happens when an insomniac marries someone who
works the night shift we got to Dubuque too early
to take the ride this time so we just enjoyed the
scenery.

We also arrived before the wife’s destination,
Shopko, opened and cruised the city looking for
a place to land. Our choices were limited due to
the early hour so we looked into the venues that
were open rather than wait in the parking lot for
her store to open.

After killing some time while managing not get
bored we headed west so the wife could get her
Shopko fix and thus quit bugging me to take her
there.

With the trunk full we decided to head back home
in an attempt to beat the rain that was predicted
on the nightly weather forecast the previous
evening.

Throughout the excursion we heard no news, no
electronic beeps, saw no pop-ups on a screen, and
stayed disconnected from all modern means of
communication. And enjoyed it!

We came home relaxed, we missed the rain, no
emergencies awaited us, and the world didn’t end
because we turned off the electronics. Hope you’re
enjoying the weekend as well.
Comments are always welcome.

Sometimes you just have to lose yourself on a good old country highway to enjoy the simple amenities along the way.

  2. It looks relaxing. We used to go on this Tram in Joseph, Oregon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2qky-AtyjU
