It’s official

We are now so waterlogged due to this ongoing storm
that the ducks are looking for shelter while the
ground hogs are buying up the sump pumps.

The street out front looked more like a water
slide and if you had to be out in the rain it felt
like there should be ice cubes too. But the wife is
off to work and I have changed into dry clothes so
we’re still having a great day.

We’re not sure when it is going to end but have no
fear of any flood-waters reaching us as we live
almost at the top of a mile long hill. The closest
a flood has ever came was about 9 blocks down
the hill.

Of course the sump pump will have to be run a few
times but we’ve done that so many times we could do
it our sleep. We like our 100 year old house too
much to move. Besides, when the rain stops we can
get out and see what needs to be done to keep the
water on the outside of the house where it belongs.

I was thinking that if I ran a porch around three
sides of the house the sump pump would never run
again. The wife isn’t so sure and the discussion
is yet to be resolved.

And at some point tonight there is a pizza with my
name on it and a cold root beer to accompany it.
Just another great day on the east coast of Iowa.
Comments are always welcome.

I’m glad you are able to focus on the pizza and root beer. It will be all the more delicious tonight for everything you’ve been through. I wish you could send some of that rain out to California, where our friends really need it right now.

    nylavox,
    thanks for the reblog.

    Julia,
thank you for the kind words. If it were possible I’d gladly send the
4.5 inches of rain we got over 4 hours your way to help with the drought.

I think the idea of running the porch around three sides is a great idea 🙂 Nothing like a old house with a wraparound porch IMO.

    Linda Savage,
I thought so too. We’d need a few more porch swings though.
