A different kind of circus

The Calliope player is warming up, the
elephants are in training, and the rest
of the circus crew is on standby.

Our City Council election is coming up
and the players are jockeying for position.

The final day to file to get on the ballot
is Thursday. If you’re from the Quad Cities,
or know the area at all, you know that
anything can happen by then.

Many around here are getting excited at the
thoughts of suppers being disrupted by
auto-dialed phone calls and mailboxes full
of reasons why one is a much better candidate
than the other.

Our Mayor has filed with no opponents so
far. The incumbent Aldermen At Large, Jason
Gordon and Gene Meeker are challenged by
Kevin Perkins and Cheryl L. Draeger.

Candidates for the 1st Ward are Rick Dunn
and Shelly Fritz.

Incumbent Bill Edmond is running solo in
the 2nd Ward.

3rd Ward has incumbent Bill Boom running
against Carlton M. Wills.

4th Ward has incumbent Ray Ambrose facing
Robby Ortiz.

5th Ward could get interesting with two
incumbents running against each other.
Current 5th Ward Alderman Sheila Burrage
and current 7th Ward Alderman Barney
Barnhill are running.

6th Ward has incumbent Jeff Justin going
it alone.

7th Ward has Mike Matson running again.

And the 8th Ward has Kerri Tompkins and
Jamie Wood in the running.

This is one of those elections where
redistricting is shaking things up a
bit, and there is still time for another
candidate or two to jump in.
Comments are always welcome.

I think the at-large alderman is Jason Gordon, not Jason Brown. You may be thinking of Alderman Nathan Brown who is the current 1st Ward Alderman. He is not running again

  2. cruisin2 says:

    Blue Devil,
lol, I was thinking of Brown and even wrote down Gordon so I wouldn’t forget. Thanks for pointing it out and I have corrected my mistake.

  3. AnonymouS says:

    Keith Meyer for Mayor.

  4. QC Ghost says:

Rah, rah Bill. Sis boom bah. Go for Mayor; save th’ City!

  5. cruisin2 says:

    we’d vote for him.

are you saying you want Boom to run for Mayor or cheering Keith?

  6. QC Ghost says:

Ah, good point. Which Bill; I didn’t think of that.

  7. Nitrous55 says:

A note on Cheryl Draeger. If she used to live in the 5th ward, she was once open to making 14th and 15th two way streets. If you spend any time on them, you would notice that would not be the best idea.

Better get working for Keith and it wouldn’t hurt to get some puppets on the council for him. First Tuesday in November comes pretty fast. My money is on the incombants. Especially the fifth ward!

  8. cruisin2 says:

    lol, we were confused.

I think she does live in 5th, but after the redistricting who knows. We haven’t heard anything about Keith running, but the 5th Ward
    will be an interesting race.

  9. Nitrous55 says:

She has moved if I am thinking of the same person. I don’t think she would fit in with your views, It wouldn’t be long and you are calling her names.

And keith shouldn’t run. His supports make him look no worst than the know it alls we already have.
