A couple meetings

The second Weed and Seed meeting is tonight. If you want to find out more, or voice your complaints, cruise on over. It runs from 6-8 pm, in the cafeteria at Palmer College. If we understand correctly, it’s the building on the east side of the skywalk over Brady Street.

Under upcoming events, on Thursday, March 27, 2008, there’s a meeting at Fejervary Park. The park is located at 1757 West 12th Street, and the meeting will be in the Wiese Building. We don’t have a time yet, but will post it when we do. The short email we recieved just mentioned that the topic is the future of the park. We would assume that includes the zoo.

If you live SoLo, both of these meetings should be of interest to you. We’ve made no secret we like the idea of the Weed and Seed program. Also we like the little zoo and think it’s worth keeping. You ideas and comments are welcome.

Alderman Justin has informed us that the meeting at Fejervary Park will start at 6 pm.

Niky Bowles is sure getting some slanderous shots on the QCTimes blog. She doesn`t deserve it. It took alot of courage and fortitude for her to go out and develop that property, and she did it without asking Davenport or the Scott County Taxpayers for one cent. It was her money and her neck on the line. Actually she helped taxpayers by improving the property that was unfarmable and paid minimal tax to residental property that is really contributing to our tax base. This sure beats the developments downtown that won`t increase our tax base for 20 years, and maybe not even then.

Those who critize the looks of the place don`t appreciate the finer things in life. Those of us who have traveled have seen simular projects in upper scale areas in Europe.
The view from the road is spectacular. I’m just sorry that things didn`t pan out for Niky, and maybe someday she will start an upscale single family gated community in Davenport.

  3. Yeah, that must be it.

Except the places you saw in Europe actually fit their surroundings. Niky’s project would be like if you took a Japanese Pagoda and built it in between those European structures. She built a Mediterranean-“themed entrance to her development that didn’t fit the area at all, and I suspect it scared off a lot of buyers. It will be interesting to see if the new owners tear it all out.

    QCI is such an againster.

    Alderman Justin,
Thanks for the nod. I’ll get it updated.

    anonymous,
Niky Bowles should be used to the bad press by now. Maybe that’s why she’s trying to sell her property here.

    QCI,
As for a bad fit, we feel the Police headquarters doesn’t fit its neighborhood either. I guess it’s a matter of taste, or something. And welcome back from vacation.

    anonymous,
QCI isn’t an againster, he just doesn’t like that development. Guess we’ll all have to wait and see what happens next.

QCI and Niky have alot in common. They both have made some bad life choices. Both Niky and QCI have had some cash flow problems due to these choices. They both had to move, with QCI moving back with his parents.

Niky can hold her head high knowing that she tried her best to make her development work. This was a business, and some new ones make it, and some don`t. A prime example are the restaruants in Downtown Davenport that fail. Centro`s just closed up in the last few months because they had an idea that didn`t work. It is not that it wasn`t a good idea, it`s just that they opened in the wrong location. They should have been out on Elmore where people want to go. They should have had a cheaper menu and a drive up window. Centro`s at least tried and did their best to succeed. Niky did the same, and it’s great she tried it in Davenport. If she would have invested in Bettendorf, it most likely would have been a success.

  8. I certainly did not move back in with my parents. But you negative types rarely let the truth interfere what what you’re trying to say.

QCI is an Againster when it comes to any idea being developed by Niky Bowles or Alderman Meyers. If the developer of Cypress Point was Charlie Brook, X-alderman McGivern, or Malin then QCI would be heading the cheering section doing cartwheels.
