A quick update

Last night Alderman Lynn joined the Guardian Angels on our first patrol of the night. We’d like to thank him for going along. Though it was a quiet night, we imagine the Alderman got a good nights sleep afterward.  Since we haven’t said anything about the group lately, we’ll do a little update. Some of the places we patrolled were the sites of the last two shootings, East 14th St., East 15th St., Locust St., Harrison St., West 15th St., Gaines St., Brown St., Marquette St., 3rd and 4th Streets, and the Skybridge. That is be no means everywhere we went, but meant to give you an idea of the area covered on a patrol.

The night was almost perfect for a patrol, except for the wind. As we have said, if someone informs one of the group of trouble in their area, we’ll do our best to add the area to patrol. That’s a quick nickel tour, comments on just about anything are welcome.

I had heard that the PD had put camera`s in the skybridge after all the damage the gangs had done to the windows and the fire suppression system. Has there been any incidents since that was done?

How far do you go on E. 14th and 15th?

    anonymous,
The cameras have been on the skybridge for a while. We think the only thing down there lately was kids removing caulking from the windows.

    nitrous55,
On the last patrol we went to Grand Avenue. It changes from week to week, depending on where we hear the hotspots are. As everyone knows, the media doesn’t cover all the crime going on, so we rely on people letting us know where there’s a problem spot. Since some of us live in the area we want to know of problems.

On E 14th and 15th, I feel you are wasting your time. The area is not that bad (just some are not bright enough to figure out the trash containers). At best you make the bad element go inside for a bit. Then they come back out after you’re into the next block. Better to focus on the 14th and Gaines. Too many don’t care or expect others to clean the place up.

    nitrous55,
We were in that area also Friday. As a matter of fact, a block from 14th and Gaines we ran accross a vacant house that was broken into.
