Bill Woodward lost his daughter after an extended illness. They buried her today and our heartfelt condolences go out to Bill and the family. Bridgeway Auto Parts will probably be closed at least today. Words cannot express the loss when someone loses a child.
It’s going to be a rainy weekend, but if you get a chance the City is extending the free yard waste pickup next week. It will be for next week only if we heard correctly. If we can stay dry long enough, we’ll take advantage of this over the weekend.
If things keep going like they have, the first cruise-in tomorrow may be cancelled. We haven’t heard anything definite yet, but we’re sure the QC Cruisers will update their website, or have answers on their hotline.
The Sippi’s project doesn’t seem to be making much headway. Once again we’ll say that we’re all for the project. We see nothing wrong with using ones own money to rebuild and existing building and make it usuable. We hope the city doesn’t hold the owners hostage much longer.
That’s a couple of things stuck in our craw, comments on any subject are welcome.

The city just keeps jacking with Sippies. Every week is costing them unexpected money to remain closed. It would only be fair if the city paid them for these costs. If Davenport doesn`t offer them something for their trouble, you can bet that a jury would give them what is comming to them.

Public works for the last few years hasn`t planned very well for the free yard waste weeks. Every year its cold and rainy on the free weeks so hardly a homeowner takes advantage of the service. So the trucks and employees are just wasting time and fuel driving around for two weeks.
Yard waste pickup shouldn`t begin until May 1st, and then let the first two weeks of May be free, or better yet, the whole month of May at no charge.
Those guys who are riding around doing nothing could be filling POTHOLES. Much better use of their time.

We hope the people behind Sippies don’t have too many more problems. We’ve had similar experiences in the past and it soured us on commercial work.
We can’t figure out why the free weeks are in April either. I guess the idea was just set a date. We also wonder when the city is going to start patching the potholes right. We haven’t heard, but with the river coming over the floodwall is the city still going to work on Centenial Park?

Usually May isn’t the first month that we can go outside without a hat and gloves. I suspect the free weeks were decided back before we realized Winter was going to last 5 months.
