Angel anniversaries

The local chapter of the Guardian Angels just celebrated our one year anniversary. It was a good feeling when word came from Chicago. Happy Birthday to us.

Also celebrated is the entire Guardian Angel organization. The following is from Curtis Sliwa himself-
Guardian Angels 29th Anniversary
On this, the 29th anniversary of the start of the Guardian Angels, I can think of no letter that better compliments all that we have achieved during this time than to have an invitation go out to us from strife torn Kenya. If you look at the recent news headlines you see that this stable democracy in Africa has been torn apart of late by sectarian violence and lawlessness. The fact that people would think of our program as a possible remedy as they have previously in New Orleans, Cape Town, Mexico City, and Rio De Janeiro speaks volumes for all that you have done and all that we have achieved.

Happy 29th Birthday! Keep up the great work all over the world, and friends of
the Guardian Angels, as you can see, we’ve never needed your help as
much as we need it now.

Best,
Curtis

Are the number of GA`s still increasing in Davenport?

The chapter is growing, though we don’t know by how many.

Driving around Davenport today, I couldn`t help but think about an article in the QC Times about the moving of some mid american power lines and poles for a few blocks out on North-west Blvd out near the interstate. The bill for this to the Taxpayers is absolutely huge, and there are two choices according to the Hammer on how to pay for the relocation of the utilities. Every customer with mid american can pay a portion of the bill ~or~ the money can come from the CIP budget, and push back a new bridge from being built.

As I drove around, there are alot of areas that look just like the picture in the paper this morning with poles in almost every yard.

Somehow it`s hard to understand equity here. If those business owners want those poles down and the lines run underground, that`s great and they should get out their checkbook and pay for it. If anyone can afford this project, it`s Mike Walen, the millionare from Heart of America restaruants. If I wanted a pole moved from in front of my place, I would not expect others to chip in on the bill. I would feel responsible and pay the bill.

I would hate to be one of the homeowners out there and get stuck with a $1000+ bill for moving my home’s service just because some businesses don’t like seeing power lines. It just seems like a heck of a lot of money for aesthetics of a fairly small area. If they’re talking about the 46th Street bridge that would connect Brady and Eastern, I would definitely rather have that.

At the Public Works Committee Meeting Wednesday, Dee made a comment about homeowners being responsible for shoveling out the storm drains in front of their houses.
Dee needs to stand up and take it like a man and just admit what a mess she got this city into.

It would be interesting to know what her poor planning has cost this city for her poor planning by paying tons of overtime over the weekend, paying a premium price for salt, plus the rental of extra equipment to get the job done. Nobody on council asked about this. If Keith was still sitting up there, you can bet we would know exactly what this cost taxpayers, plus a new plan so it wouldn`t happen again
