Continuing on the subject of Davenport wasting money- the QCTimes hasn`t had anything lately on the industrial park that Davenport is about willing to give people low cost land if they will build there. A year or two ago, council decided the problem was that there were no rail tracks to that property. Seems like it was several million dollars that they decided to spend on installing a spur, and that was going to be the lifesaver for everything. Anyone know if there’s been any development out there that can be attributed directly to taxpayers paying for that rail installation?

Regarding QCI`s post about the church that doesn`t care to spend 3/4 of a million dollars on a house that if brought up to code would be lucky to sell for $250,000. I didn`t see anyplace where QCI said that the church has offered to anyone that they can buy that house for One Dollar. The new owner just needs to move it to their own vacant lot. That is a price that even QCI could afford, and his parents could live peacefully again and return to the tranquility of being Empty Nesters again. So there ya go QCI. Put your DOLLAR where your mouth is.

Next week the city council will be approving an expenditure of $12,000 for baseball tickets to our new ball franchise. Somehow it seems like the new owners should donate those tickets to the city.
If Keith was still Alderman, this wouldn`t go under the radar without some scrutney.
Aldermen are also starting to discuss the next years budget. Hopefully Keith will keep an eye on that for us.

If St. Paul`s isn`t allowed to demo their historic house, it will end up just like the historic mansion that Palmer
owns at 11th and Pershing. The historic commission wouldn`t allow them to demo that blister either, so the college boarded it up over ten years ago, and has just let it set, except for mowing the weeds once a month. It too would have been better off salvaged for usable materials, then torn down and used as college parking.

We haven’t heard anything new on the industrial park lately. As for the house the church bought, it sounds to us like the church bough it with the intentions of tearing it down. If it would cost too much for the church to redo, they could sell it, get there money back, and watch it get restored. We don’t look for that to happen.
As for the baseball tickets, we haven’t heard. Even if true there would be those who say it’s only a small cost. The dignified circus that is now the city council will be sure to rubber stamp these things that make no sense to us. At least it looks like it’s going to be an interesting term for this city council.
