A non-endorsement post

We can always tell when it’s election time. This auto-dialer campaign BS should be illegal. At least if you are going to bother us in our home, tell me something with some truth in it. I have enough hair on my ass to weave an Indian blanket, and YOU have the audacity to tell me who to vote for.

You seem to forget, Ms. Howard, the faces you make when the public speaks at Council meetings, how to try to censure other Aldermen who have as much right as you to talk, and of course the cover-up of your sons arrest. Spreading lies, and telling us what the other candidates did years ago is not going to get our vote. Oh, I forgot, you can’t run on what you’ve done since elected.

Tomorrow is the primary, information has been shared, names have been dragged through the mud, and some good ideas have come out. Let’s all vote to put some adults who are willing to make a difference in our city into office. Please vote.

That auto-dialer really is annoying. Just like when those salesmen used to call at dinner time to talk to you about something that you would never use. Too bad you can be auto-dialed even though you are on the NO CALL list.

I hadn’t thought about it, but I guess this is my first election without a landline phone. I definitely won’t miss the autodialers.

Cruiser – Nicely put, Please vote! NHS attempted to do a demonstration in the 5th ward on our lot on Kirkwood and Grand. Two weeks ago we emailed or called all candidates inviting them to take part in a get out the vote kind of thing. We asked for each candidate from all races to provide a small sign to be placed at the park with all others signs. We had a sign made simply saying – You can make a difference – VOTE!. We placed the signs this morning and I’ve been over there three times to set them up(apparently a maze of campaign signs are irresistable for neighborhood kids to ride or skateboard through…) Anyway, the message was simply – no endorsements – we just want to encourage all residents to take part in their community.

We had about a 35% turn out, but the invitation went to all with several reminders to those we hadn’t received them from. I hope this explains a little about why there are so many signs at the locale. And to hedge off those who want to make disparaging remarks, the lot is entirely privately owned, and involves no public funds. The idea was a genuine attempt to involve more people in the voting process. Since the last local election drew less than 20% of the registered voters, we thought we’d give a little encouragement.

Anyway, thanks to yourself and Snarky, and some of the other local bloggers for putting information out there. Everyone please VOTE!

I have never been called by the autodialer! I must have done something right to keep my name off the list.

I think they should outlaw the autodialers, yard signs and all other forms of campaigning. The only campaigning should be a two or three special issues in the local papers and several forums in different parts of the city aired on public access. Take away uses to spend money.

If you add door-knocking by the candidate themself to your list, I think I agree.

I don’t see a problem with signs in peoples yards as long as they are not friken HUGE signs that can be seen from space. The autodialer are an instant “Don’t vote for this person” for my wife and I which is irritating since a few of the people we would normally support use them. The media should have a set fo standard questions thought up ahead of time and just have the candidates answer them in a special edition of the paper and maybe a special half hour TV bit on public access. The voting records of incumbents should be shown and if they want to change their mind on something then they should be willing to explain why they did so.

Thanks to everyone for sharing their thoughts, I really don’t have a clue on this one. Some candidates must like knowing that they’re losing votes this way.
Ilcantar if you’re running for office, I’d vote you with ideas like that.

I was told the autodialer list was made from the auditors records. You do not have to give your phone number when you vote, or when you register to vote. You can have your number removed from the auditors list, if you request it. I don’t know if that requires an in-person visit, or if you can do it by phone. I specifically stated in my mailings that I would NOT use an autodialer. Personally, I hate them! Now go vote!

The signs are a waste of landfill space.

And Howard has been a waste of Council space for the past 4 years.

It is time to eliminate the 2 at large positions.
