Since the elections are right around the corner, and that seems to be
what people are thinking about, We thought we’d take a slightly different
path than the rest. Who knows what kind of car our City leaders drive?
We’ve seen Mayor Winborn in a green Minivan, Doc has a green Cadillac,
Aldermen Lynn and Meyers have pick-ups. What do current City Council
members, and those running, drive. I don’t expect any classics or hot rods,
although up until a few years ago Doc had a really sharp Corvette.
Does anybody know? Does anybody care? Personally, we think ‘you are what
you drive’. If we want to get to know who’s running our city; shouldn’t
that include their means of transportation also?
If you like rides like we do, you’ll like this website that has

I believe that Keith also has a little compact car. I think I`ve seen him with two dogs with their heads out the windows.
While on the subject of Alderman Meyer, it is great that he has decided to run again. He is our #1 alderman on the current council. He really has a heart of gold, as he showed this week when one of his neighbors missed the bus, and Keith drove him to work. That is just the neighborly thing to do. Thank you Keith for watching the purse strings.

Alderman Meyer is right on target with his decisions over 99% of the time. This E business that is looking for a handout smells just like the Brammer Manufacturing deal. Alderman Meyer had that one pegged, and said the public was going to get hammered, and sure enough, we were left holding the bag. Just look at how many of the downtown projects are failing miserably. Keith predicted this would happen before River Rennassance. I`ve often wondered if Shabonie has a crystal ball.
Somebody fill me in on `shelly.` Does she really own a business downtown in the rainbow district, or has she just stuck her nose someplace where it isn`t wanted?

I drive a green ‘95 Grand Am, with 164,000+ miles on it. Sometimes (when she lets me) I drive my wife’s ‘92 Buick LeSabre. I also drive a ‘63 Nova SS, a ‘65 Nova SS, and a ‘65 Nova Wagon. I love the Chevrolet Novas. Some people might even call me a Novaholic, but I can’t be one, because I don’t go to the meetings. If you have been to a car show, or cruise-in sometime in the last 20 years, you have probably seen either me, or one of my cars.

I’m surprised that some of our current Aldermen don’t drive a horse and buggy.

How soon QCI forgets the old brown van he used to drive, that was held together with a shoestring and a coathanger.

I’m sure most have more than one vehicle, the ones I mentioned I actually saw them driving.
Dale Gilmour,
I think we’ve seen your Novas. Wasn’t there a magazine feature or newspaper story about you and your Novas? I seem to remember reading sometning. Due to some obligations, we can’t make Saturday night cruises anymore so that makes it rough to meet with fellow car people.
Alderman Meyer has been right about some things with more regularity than others on the Council. He has made it interesting lately.

I never had a brown van, nor any vehicle that was on the edge of falling apart.

What has Meyer been right about? Please list some for instances and be specific, thats all.

Bill Lynn drives around in a gold lexus. Barney Barnhill drives around in his truck. I think Jamie Howard drives a Chrysler 300

River Renaissance isn’t a failure the management of most of them were. Concepts were good but until we get people in key management spots that want to rise up out of the mediocrity that has plagued the quad cities for the past 25 years and actually run the components of RR to the level of which they were built we will always be that quaint country bend in the river.
Why would anyone want to come here to vacation or build a business or raise a family in a community with such a crappy self image?
If you think like a minor league player you’re gonna stay a minor league player.
Oh and to be on thread topic. I think its more important to know if the candidates can change their own oil than what they drive.

It was in your post QCI about how you refused to shop at grocery stores SOL because they didn`t have your pop. You were on the way out to 53rd and Elmore to buy groceries, and your vehicle started falling apart.
I remember that post clearly, as it struck me as hippocritical that someone who wants business downtown, and on numerous times blogged about prospective businesses and out of towners reading our blogs, that you would admit that you live downtown, but don`t spend your money downtown. You go to the New Downtown to shop, that being, 53rd and Elmore.

It was Schnuck’s actually, and my van was green. It later passed away on a trip Macomb, but not from falling apart. Just the usual problem with MOPAR minivans, the transmission died.
I’m not a candidate though, so my vehicles don’t matter.
Speaking of my pop issues, if you would like to sample the world’s most disgusting pop, I suggest trying Save-A-Lot’s “Dr. Pop.”

The pic of your van that was circulated looked brown. Maybe you hadn`t washed it in a few months.

I don’t know if he still has it, but Yerington used to have a tan 80’s Corvette. While mayor, he drove an ex police Crown Vic.
