Here’s an upcoming event I wouldn’t usually mention, but after some thought, it sounds interesting.
On Monday, July 9, 2007, the Figge Art Museum is opening its doors to the public for a few hours so we can hear a guest speaker, grab a cold one and some hors d’oeuvres, see some art, and maybe even give some input to what we would like for the future of our city. And remember,if we can’t dazzle them with our brilliance, maybe we can baffle them with our bull.
Jeff Speck, a famous guy I’ve never heard of, is going to talk on the subject “The City Livable-4 steps to a more Vital Quad Cities”. He is a designer, planner, author, and most recently Director of Design at the National Endowment for the Arts. Sounds like a perfect opportunity for Intellectuals and Rednecks to foregather. This is going to be held in the Deere Auditorium (2nd floor gallery).
The schedule is as follows:
5:00-6:00 p.m.: Reception (Heavy hors d’oeuvres; beverages; Cash Bar –wine &
beer)
6:00-7:30 p.m.: 1-hour presentation followed with Q&A
7:30-8:15 p.m. Book Signing: Suburban Nation: The rise of sprawl and the
decline of the American dream
The public is invited. There is no charge to attend, and the Figge galleries will be
open to lecture attendees. The event is hosted by the City of Davenport and
sponsored by RiverAction, RiverVision, and the cities of Moline, East Moline,
Rock Island, LeClaire, Princeton and Bettendorf.
For more information, contact the City of Davenport Design Center at 563-3267743 or 563-888-2252.
I wasn’t planning on going, but I think I might. Since I haven’t been to the Musuem yet, and the price is right. I think I’ll put on a pair of shoes and attend. It doesn’t say anything about a dress code, so I could probably get in. If you been complaining about how things are done, or where you think our area is going, you should attend also. Since I don’t drink anymore, I hope they have Coke at the cash bar.
Comments are welcome.

The cash bar will be some of the finest champaign that money can by for those from the 6th Ward. They will be heavily stocked with PBR and Milwalkee`s Best for 3rd ward attendee`s.
Admittance is free, but the cokes will be $20.

Even though this is more my kinda thing, you beat me to it Cruiser! The Clintons and the flooding pushed my post about it back a couple days. I’m hoping to make it to this event, but my next few days are pretty busy.

We can only hope Aldermans Van Fossen and Barnhill don’t go broke at the cash bar.

Like I said, it could be interesting. I did this post because someone asked me to. Since he doesn’t normally ask, I did.

YOu can bet Shabonnie will be there in a tux and tails, and a stovetop hat, to listen to all the great ideas to spend our tax dollars. YOu can bet the guest speaker will suggest more parking ramps and more bridges to nowhere.

Shabonnie is really going to stock up on signed copies of Jeff Specks book to give as Christmas gifts this year. They will be as popular as Shabonnie`s gift last year, which was the highly prized and coveted city of Davenport flags, signed by Jumpin` George Nicholos.
