We Are:
Men and women from all backgrounds.
We All:
Work towards a universal goal that everyone has the right and deserves to be safe.
The Dream
That all children will enjoy a safe environment in which they can rise to their full potential, and can acquire indestructible self-esteem, confidence and pride of accomplishment achieved through their contribution and commitment to society.
The Goal
To motivate teachers, parents and children, as mentors and companions to create a safer, more powerful future through our programs and our dedication to personal safety, civic contribution, value develpment and cyber security. To have violence prevention programs in school systems across America for the benefit of students and teachers alike. To be utilized by colleges, universities and other institutions of higher learning as the prime resource for training teachers in violence prevention inside and outside of the classroom.
The Plan
Through increased prtnership with the educational, business, cultural, and religious institutions of our communities, we will solidify and expand our pragmatic and positive role model programs. We will continue to focus and enhance our programs in personal safety, neighborhood safety, cyberspace safety and civility, with a special emphasis on overcoming social and educational adverisity. In concert with our nation’s schools, we will continue our groundbreaking work in developing curricula illustrating and documenting the benefits of violence prevention.

You got it monkeyman. Seems like some people think the Guardian Angels are a bunch of bar brawlers going off half-cocked to find trouble. There is alot more to the organization than that.

I hope I’m not those “some people.” This is great stuff, I’ve got the brochure on this particular program. I don’t see how anyone could be against it. Like I’ve said before, 95% of the stuff the GAs do is great.
Take away the 5% that we disagree about (physical interventions) and you’d probably have unanimous community support.

Ive got co workers who complain and complain about how things in this city have gone downhill but when I try and get them to step up and come out with us I get made fun of as just being another cop wantabe. None of these people want to try and make any sort of change, they just want to keep complaining about how the city wont hire enough cops but when the city wants to rais taxes to do so they vote against it. I guess they think there should be volunteer cops.

QCI, I failed to mention in the post that it was taken in its entirety from the Guardian Angels, beyond the streets booklet. People seem to have a pre-concieved notion about our group. This always happens when people don’t understand a program. Not many have come to training or on patrols to actually see what is done.
Ilcantar, I see the same thing. I guess people would rather complain, move, or stay inside than get pro-active to save their neighborhoods. Alot of people care about their community, just not enough to patrol 18 miles on foot in all kinds of weather. As someone who pushed to get the Guardian Angels here since at least October, and been through this much of the experience, I still believe very strongly that it is a solution to some of our problems. To other Guardian Angel trainees, I salute you. To the againsters, we haven’t cost you a dime, we buy our equipment and volunteer our time to be role models for your children nad make our city safer.

YOu should give QCI a personal invitation to join you, and maybe after a patrol, you could convince him not to be such an Againster.

I know you can`t post about your patrols for security reasons cruiser, but they really were good for the GA`s image in the public when you were able to tell what good they were doing every weekend. I wish you could figure out a way to safely tell about patrols in very general terms so the againsters know what good work you are doing.
After that home invasion on East 12th last night, maybe we need 100`s of volunteers for the GA`s instead of a handfull.

We could always use more people, and I’ve been working on a way to post a little about the patrols. Lately my schedule has only allowed me to go on earlier patrols, and not much goes on at 7 pm. This past weekend, my son got off work at 1 am, and we went back down. I will say that it was busy. The Police were out in force and the crowds of drunks was unbelievable. Even our lovely skybridge had someone sleeping by th stairs.
