I hear the Latin Kings are a little down in the dumps this morning. Late last night seven of their members were arrested on various charges. A big thank you to the Police Department and all involved. I don’t know if we’ll hear much about this, but I hope we do. It happened too late to make today’s newspaper so I hope they cover it tomorrow.  The Police seemed to be very busy last night with a bunch of fights. I don’t know if these were gang-related or not.

On another note, with all this big noise about global warming, I decided to look into it. After days of research, and hundreds of web pages read, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s true. I’ve also unearthed the culprit.  bears

This is an open post so any comments are welcome.

That’s great about the arrests. Seems the vice unit is doing double time these days!

I still haven’t heard anything else about it. If anyone else has, let us know.

What gang or gangs do the Howard Clan belong to? Or are they a gang of their own?

I couldn’t agree more with Snarky Chick. Our police are working their tails off to curtail the recent explosion of gang activity, and they deserve nothing more than our gratitude and support. As someone who works with our youth on a daily basis, I can assure you that the gang problem is on the upswing, and efforts like those of our officers last night need to be reported–in big, bold letters so that these criminals understand that they are not welcome in the Quad Cities. Let’s just hope that these guys get more than a little wrist slap. The summer is just getting started, we have had more than a few outbreaks already, and the tone needs to be set for the months to come.

Gangs are like mythological Hydras, cut off a head and another one grows back into place. You have to stop the regrowth at the bloody stumps to fall the creature.

Alderman Meyers: There are two more flaws on the city website. On the Happen page, it gives a phone number for George S., but there should be an email address to contact him. In this day and age everyone communicates by email so there is a track record of what is said.

    2) Under departments, if you go to Finance, they have a click on link for email, but when you click it, it comes up NULL. So something is wrong there.

This new I.T. guy gets what salary? :)

I think the Howards might be considered a gang, if only by sheer number.
The thing with gangs is this, they will go wherever they get the least hassle. It’s true, scoundrel, that you can’t really get rid of the entire gang. You can make it hard enough for them to do business that they will move to another city. That’s how we got some of them from Chicago and St. Louis. We need the Police to keep up the pressure, and we need alot more press coverage like you said west _ender. Sadly, unless the police get the top members, most of the media don’t feel it’s newsworthy. We hope things will change for the better.
As to the city website, I don’t know but I have sent the question to Alderman Meyer in the hope that he has an answer.
