Racing radio

May 16, 2006

I caught most of Steve Donovan’s show on the radio (KJOC AM 1170 ) Monday and he has another fan. It was good to hear people talking about Ronnie Weedon again. As I have said often most of the local media just don’t give motorsports enough coverage. I really liked the show and will definitely be listening in my garage on Monday afternoons. They mentioned a DVD on Ronnies’s career and memorial services at the Fairgrounds, and I didn’t have a pen handy to get the number to order one. When I listen next week, and if they mention it, I will post the information here.

It’s interesting how you listen other people mention someone and your mind wanders to a different time. For some reason I drifted back to the 70’s when I met Ronnie at Strieter’s body shop. Funny how that works sometimes.
Anyway, if you have some time on Monday afternoons tune in to 1170 AM at catch this show, it runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. I’ll bet you’ll want to listen again too.

factory hot rods

There are a lot of recognizable elements in the Concept Camaro design lifted directly from the ‘67-’69 Camaro. But the whole car is much sharper edged than the original; the design has facets much like Cadillac’s current sedans. That results in a car that looks more aggressive than any factory ‘69 Camaro. “The overall proportions, long hood, and powerful fender forms say this is a front-engined, rear-wheel-drive performance vehicle,” says Tom Peters, GM’s design director, rear-wheel-drive performance cars. Look for them in 2009.

“Challenger draws upon the initial ‘70 model as the icon of the series,” says Tom Tremont, vice president, advanced vehicle design. “The ‘70 model is the most sought after by collectors. But instead of merely recreating that car, the designers endeavored to build a Challenger most people see in their mind’s eye–a vehicle without the imperfections like the old car’s tucked-under wheels, long front overhang, and imperfect fits. As with all pleasurable memories, you remember the good and screen out the bad. We wanted the concept car to evoke all those sweet memories . . . everything you thought the Challenger was, and more.” They should be out in 2009.

What happens when a legend from Texas reunites with a legend from Dearborn? The most powerful Mustang ever.

After 40 years, racing legend Carroll Shelby and the Ford Mustang are back together with the introduction of the 2007 Ford Shelby GT500.

The collaboration between Shelby and Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT) is yielding an instant collector’s Mustang that builds 475 horsepower in its 5.4-liter supercharged V-8. Scheduled for the 2007 model year.

something to think about

May 13, 2006

Here’s an interesting take on foriegn policy. Seems a lot of our tax dollars go over there, and a lot of negativity comes back.

Below are the actual voting records of various Arabic/Islamic States which are recorded in both the US State Department and United Nations records:

Kuwait votes against the United States 67% of the time

Qatar votes against the United States 67% of the time

Morocco votes against the United States 70% of the time

United Arab Emirates votes against the U.S. 70% of the time.

Jordan votes against the United States 71% of the time.

Tunisia votes against the United States 71% of the time.

Saudi Arabia votes against the United States 73% of the time.

Yemen votes against the United States 74% of the time.

Algeria votes against the United States 74% of the time.

Oman votes against the United States 74% of the time.

Sudan votes against the United States 75% of the time.

Pakistan votes against the United States 75% of the time.

Libya votes against the United States 76% of the time.

Egypt votes against the United States 79% of the time.

Lebanon votes against the United States 80% of the time.

India votes against the United States 81% of the time.

Syria votes against the United States 84% of the time.

Mauritania votes against the United States 87% of the time.

U S Foreign Aid to those that hate us:

Egypt, after voting 79% of the time against the United States, still receives $2 billion annually in US Foreign Aid.

Jordan voted 71% against the United States and receives

$192,814,000 annually in US Foreign Aid.

Pakistan votes 75% against the United States and Receives

$6,721,000 annually in US Foreign Aid.

India votes 81% against the United States and Receives

$143,699,000 US Foreign Aid annually.

Maybe it’s time to get out of the UN and give tax breaks to the Americans who are having to skimp and sacrifice to pay taxes and for gasoline from those countries!

Local radio for race fans

May 11, 2006

A while back Ronnie Weedon 00 stickers were mentioned, along with the lack of racing coverage. I recieved the following e-mail concerning both from the host of a local talk radio racing show. The station used to be all sports but has changed it’s format to talk. For those of us old enough to remember “Chicken Man” it also used to have the KSTT call letters. So here is Steve Donovan’s note-

I couldn’t agree with you more on the coverage of local racing in this area. The newspapers seem to be doing a little more this year than in the past, but you would think with the NASCAR on FOX and NBC, the local TV might just want to tag onto that with more local coverage. For those of you who don’t know I host a local race talk show on KJOC AM1170 every Monday night at 5:00pm until 7:00pm and all we talk about is local racing. We bring in the Promoters, drivers, and sponsors and invite the listeners to call in and be a part of the show.
For the guy who posted April 25th. and wanted one of the “00″ window stickers I have a few left if He can get in touch with me.
A big tip of the hat to Ron Pershey, Bob Wagner, Kevin Feller and a host of others who put on a great week end of racing to honor Ronnie Weedon…He was a great friend of mine and will be missed

The following is the content of 2 e-mails that I recieved from John Pendelton. I have not edited anything, except for removing his e-mail address.

Hi Cruiser,

Please help me put Cindy Sheehan out of business.

After reading Just Cruisin (I only discovered your blog last month) and several other blogs over many, many months, I have finally been shamed into doing something to help our side make some headway (in my own small fashion).

Because she does so much to undermine support for our troops, I am trying to put together a site detailing the utter depravity of Cindy Sheehan. I couldn’t find a one-stop-shop about her so I have chosen to do it myself. It isn’t slick, and it isn’t shiny, but I have done my best to gather everything in one place. This woman is not just another left-wing whacko. She is a truly vile creature who makes money off her dead son’s name and chases fame at every opportunity. I love my country and she has become the epicenter of anti-American sentiment. I realize that the vast majority of lefties won’t turn from her when they learn that she posed for Vanity Fair magazine on her son’s grave. They won’t care either that she spent $250,000 of his life insurance money (including the purchase of a new car for herself), but couldn’t get around to buying him a headstone.

My hope is that by getting the truth out to average Americans, I can help them see the totality of what she represents and then they will start to connect the dots and see how the lefties in Washington and Hollywood are helping keep her in the spotlight long after her 15 minutes of fame should have ended. Any help you can provide in spreading the word will be greatly appreciated. A link, a mention, a word of advice. Any and all of these are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Hi Cruiser,

Please circulate this as widely as you can. Thanks in advance.

www.cindysheehanwatch.com/alert.html

It appears that several of the large news organizations are pulling their archived Cindy Sheehan images from the web. A large number of Images that I had bookmarked have become dead links.
Additionally, when I do a search of Yahoo! or Google image databases, the vast majority of what comes up is from the blogosphere. On Google, this might be explained by certain known components
in their algorithm (called Pagerank), but A) that factor is widely believed to have been greatly devalued and B) Yahoo! had a different algorithm. Perhaps the more mainstream Lefties have decided
that we’re having too much fun laughing at their poster-child or perhaps it’s something nastier. Either way, please grab any worthwhile images you see, not the source and save them to your hard-drive.

(Note to self: Remember to remove tinfoil hat before leaving the office at the end of the day.)

Best regards,

John Pendleton

Ford Museum, the Beatles, and Pooh bear

May 9, 2006

There’s a huge car show called Motor Muster, at the Greenfield Village, sponsored by the Henry Ford Museum, June 17 & 18. Cars from the 1930’s to the 1970’s will be there with lots of special events. The event website is here

The Beatles lost their trademark infringement lawsuit against Apple computer. To read more about this go here.

Winnie the Pooh is keeping company with the Queen of England. Seems they both got an 80th birthday portrait done. If this interest you go here.

illegal immigrants and Cindy Sheehan

May 8, 2006

Recently on his blog Charlie Daniels, of country music fame, wrote a controversial opinion about illegal aliens. Known for not pulling punches, this doesn’t dissapoint his fans. The link is here.

Another take on illegal aliens is in this report about Los Angeles. Go here for the story.

And lastly, the woman I love to hate, Cindy Sheehan. Seems she got a cool quarter of a million dollars when her son was killed, and she still doesn’t have a marker on his grave. Man, that sucks. Anyway, for that story go here.

Ronnie, inspectors, seat belts, and Al Gore

May 6, 2006

I figured I’d put a few links up that cover different subjects. First the story about how local tracks are honoring Ronnie Weedon. If this interests you the link to the story is here.

Staying local, it seems not everyone is happy with the removal of the inspection department. For one property owner’s take on the problem go here.

Still local, it seems the Davenport Police Department wants truckers to buckle up for safety. Sounds like they want more money to me, but the story is here.

And now going way out there, after seeing the Southpark episode about Al Gore, I ran into a much tamer article about his new movie about global warming. Since he finished inventing the internet he must have had some spare time on his hands. That story is here.
